Yilport, one of Turkey’s newest container ports, close to the mouth of the Bosporus, has gone live with the Navis Sparcs N4 terminal operating system.

Yilport terminal co-ordinator Mustafa Erkanat said: “Currently we are at 400,000teu capacity, but we want to get to two million by 2015.

“The N4 software gives us freedom to customise our engineering and makes it possible for us to handle higher volumes with ease. The bottom line is that we expect N4 to help us reduce costs and increase profitability.

“We can’t increase our terminal tariffs, due to the tougher competition and market conditions, so we have to reduce our operation cost per teu by increasing productivity.”

Phase One of Yilport was completed last June and it included commissioning four ship-to-shore gantry cranes and 12 yard cranes on the main terminal, and six yard cranes at the inland terminal.

Phase Two will see the current two in and two out lanes expanded to 10 – six in and four out – by the end of 2011, when volumes are expected to reach 1m teu.

A third phase is scheduled to be completed by end of 2015, when the target annual capacity of 2m teu will be achieved.
