The Overseas Shippers Association is taking part in trials to track containers using TripLock, a device made by UK-based telematics company Aeromark.

TripLock can locate a container anywhere within the mobile phone network, and notify the shipper if anyone tampers with the door. A sensor built into the unit sends an immediate alert if the door is opened in transit.

Aeromark claims the device may help companies avoid delays at ports and remove the risk of damaging inspections.

TripLock is powered by a rechargeable battery with an estimated operating life of 30 days.
