Nine containership hijackers captured by marines without a shot fired
Armed pirates who hijacked a German containership in the Gulf of Aden on Wednesday, only to quickly find themselves surrounded by warships, have been arrested by US marines.
Early yesterday morning, two dozen marine commandos stormed the vessel and took nine pirates into custody without a shot being fired.
The containership Magellan Star was in the Gulf’s internationally recognised transit corridor when it was boarded by the pirates. The 11 crew members locked themselves in a “safe room”.
