A new training facility run by Wakefield College’s commercial training arm, Services To Business, has been opened.

The Logistics Training Centre, based at the Aire and Calder Industrial Park in Castleford, Yorkshire, will provide training facilities for people working within, or wishing to work within, the forklift and warehousing industries.

The training will include mechanical handling, equipment, logistics, health and safety and operations management.

Students will also be given hands-on experience of operating fork-lift trucks and cherry- and reach-pickers.

Services to Business Manager Kate Dyson said: “The centre will provide courses and training for both employers and individuals who need to progress their skill base.

“West Yorkshire has one of the worst records in the country for fork-lift truck accidents, and by opening this centre we are responding directly to the needs of customers and helping to develop a skilled and safe workforce.”

The college has been working in partnership with Job Centre Plus to provide free training in areas such as customer service, care, warehousing, IT, retail and security.
