Eurotunnel and SNCF have completed the takeover of French private rail operator Veolia Cargo that was initiated on 2 September.

Jacques Gounon, chairman and CEO of Eurotunnel, said the group now had a "significant foothold" in France’s intermodal rail freight sector.

Veolia Cargo France, Veolia Cargo Link, CFTA Cargo and Socorail will be placed under the management of Europorte, the group’s rail subsidiary.

Socorail will keep its brand while the others will be renamed as: Europorte France, Europorte Link and Europorte Proximity.

All cross-channel activities of Europorte 2 will now be known as Europorte Channel.
