The Transported Asset Protection Association (Tapa) is creating a crime reduction taskforce for the Netherlands, to help combat rising cargo losses.
Tapa said the group would co-ordinate the efforts of the supply chain industry towards effective partnership with the authorities, including government ministries, public prosecution authorities and the police.
Its first job would be to write to the Dutch minister of economic affairs "to reiterate the nature, size and potential economic impact of actual crime in the supply chain", copying the prime minister, and other ministries.
The moves follow a meeting of more than 110 officials and business representatives in Amsterdam after Tapa highlighted the threat to the Netherlands’ position as a primary distribution centre for high-value cargo in Europe.
The association warned that an escalation in the number of incidents of crime and the huge cost of losses was forcing many manufacturers of high-value or high-risk products to look at ways for their supply chains to bypass the Netherlands.
