DHL scores as Rugby World Cup logistics partner
Operator will handle official shipments for next year's tournament in New Zealand
DHL has announced that it has become the official logistics partner for the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
The company will be responsible for ticket distribution, as well as official express shipments and international and domestic freight movements, including the delivery of competing teams’ equipment.
DHL estimates that approximately 200 moves of 2-6 tonnes will take place during the tournament. DHL will also store and deliver uniforms and official equipment from training grounds to playing venues around New Zealand.
It expects its trucks to cover almost 30,000km over the course of the tournament.
DHL Express CEO Ken Allen said: “The game is about passion, teamwork and a can-do spirit and those are characteristics that can be attributed to DHL Express as well.”
