Deutsche Bahn (DB) is back on track for growth after recording a 12.8% increase in revenue to €16.1 billion (US$21bn) in the first half of 2010.
The group’s freight transport and logistics businesses, which it said had been significantly affected by the economic crisis, benefited from the global recovery.
During the first six months of the year, DB’s freight transport business saw volumes increase 40% on the corresponding period in 2009, to 200 million tonnes.
The freight forwarding and logistics arm saw the number of shipments in the European land transport segment increase by 14.6% to 39.4 million.
Air freight volumes grew by almost one-third to 584,800 tonnes, while ocean freight volumes increased 23% to 800,100teu.
