Volga launches tailor-made services for high and mighty cargo
Heavylift specialist will offer door-to-door logistics
Heavylift air freight carrier Volga-Dnepr has launched what it calls an “engineering and logistics centre” to provide tailored services for complex worldwide outsized logistics projects.
One aim is to provide door-to-door services of the type usually provided by specialist project freight forwarders.
As well as offering the group’s own fleet of AN-124 and IL-76 freighters, it will also offer, via a charter function, smaller aircraft such as the AN-26, operated by third-party airlines.
One charter broker told IFW that Volga risked alienating some of its customers by straying into their territory.
“We took a view that it is not being set up to take business from charter brokers, since this type of complex charter project work, involving several months of planning, often does not go through brokers - but it does seem to stray into the area of the specialist project forwarders,” he said.
“So whether this ends up boosting or damaging their business, only time will tell.”
