The Kühne School of Logistics and Management, whose sole shareholder is the non-profit Kuehne Foundation, is founding an independent university, the Kühne Logistics University (KLU) in Hamburg.

In the next five years, the KLU plans to develop two international non-consecutive Master’s and Bachelor’s degree courses and a continuing education programme.

There will also be a PhD fellowship programme as well as international and interdisciplinary research.

The KLU’s central theme is Business Management, with a particular focus on logistics.

It plans to launch in October with the MSc in Global Logistics course including a period of study at one of its Asian, European or American partner schools.

State recognition is to be applied for from the education and science authorities in Hamburg, and discussions have been promising, said the KLU.

The university’s founding president is Dr Wolfgang Peiner, a freight forwarder and chartered accountant, supported by Dr Markus Baumanns of Schumacher & Baumanns, who heads the management team.
