Staff unions at SNCF will support a one-day national strike in France on 23 March in defence of employment.
However, one of the unions, Sud-Rail, which represents around 18% of SNCF’s unionised workforce, has called on its members to stage industrial action for an unlimited period from this date.
“We demand that SNCF puts a stop to cutting jobs and breaking up the firm,” the union said, adding that management had refused to heed the “warning strike” which took place on 3 February.
