Lufthansa Cargo has been trialling a new type of air cargo container.
They are constructed of innovative and lighter composites of glass fibre and kevlar, instead of aluminium, which reduces their weight by 20%, thus lowering fuel burn and carbon emissions.
Container lessor Jettainer’s MD, Alexander Plümacher, said: “The innovative design will not only save costs but, simultaneously, reduce emissions considerably. That will make aviation become a little greener.”
