Indonesia triples spend on air and seaports
Ports will be major beneficiaries after recent free-trade deals
The Indonesian government has pledged to triple spending on seaports and airports after free-trade deals signed under the Asean banner came into force with China and India on 1 January.
The new deals put an end to import tariffs on approximately 90% of traded goods.
Sixty-six ports and 25 state-owned airports will receive funding from a Rp10.3trn (US$1.1bn) budget set aside for infrastructure upgrades in 2010, up from Rp3.3trn last year.
Government officials said ports would receive two-thirds of the funding.
