Dear Kizzi,
The subject of fuel duty rebate for UK hauliers, surely the UK level of taxes on diesel generally has been nothing short of scandalous since it became more popular with the private sector.
Travellers in the EU from "Rip-off UK" only have to check local diesel pump prices to realise the UK must be about the only oil-based EU economy (albeit with limited stocks now) where diesel costs more than petrol and is not subsidised with lower taxes for all users private or otherwise.
It is ironic surely that many EU diesel buyers pay around 10% less at the pumps than we do when much of it is (or was) produced in and imported from the UK. Where’s the democracy in that?
Yours sincerely,
Mike Lawley
