Workers at Air France, SNCF and La Poste joined thousands of others in staging a general one-day strike today (29 January) - in protest of dwindling purchasing power and job security.
Despite the prospect of air traffic controllers participating in the strike, Air France said it would operate 100% of its long-haul flights on Thursday.
However, on its short-and medium-haul network, the French flag carrier has decided to suspend 30% of its flights at Paris-Orly and 10% at Paris-Charles de Gaulle, as a precautionary measure.
It added that some flights may also have to be cancelled during the day while others could be subject to delays.
Meanwhile, Fret SNCF is forecasting the strike to have “important repercussions” throughout its traffic network, especially in the south-east of the country, from Wednesday evening, 28 January, to Friday morning, 30 January.
La Poste declined to comment on the impact the industrial action had on its services.
Around 30,000 people are reported to have marched through Marseille, apparently in support of the strikers.
