Forwarder DSV expects the lack of capacity that characterised the air and sea markets in late 2009 to continue this year, requiring more human resources focused on finding space for the expected increase in sales volumes.
But in terms of demand, the Danish-owned forwarder has seen a significant improvement in recent months.
“The momentum seems to have changed, and we feel a new sense of optimism, leading us to believe that the weak performance in 2009 will be outweighed by better results in 2010,” said the company.
Despite the difficult market conditions in 2009, DSV said it had achieved “satisfactory” full-year financial results – published yesterday – on the whole in line with expectations.
Air and sea contributed Dkr14bn (US$2.57bn) in revenue, with ebitda of Dkr955m up 5.4% on the Dkr906m in 2008.
The road division recorded revenue of Dkr18.4bn. Ebitda came to Dkr597m, down 31.6% on 2008’s Dkr874m.
DSV’s total revenue amounted to Dkr36bn, just below last years’ Dkr37.4bn. The group returned an ebitda of Dkr1.7bn 10.2% down on 2008’s Dkr1.9bn.
