ELAA to be wound-up
Container line lobby group has reached the end of its useful life, says Chairman
One of the world’s best known container shipping associations is to be wound up next month.
The Chairman of the European Liner Affairs Association (ELAA), Eivind Kolding, who is also CEO of Maersk Line, told IFW’s sister publication, Lloyd’s List, that the lobby group would be wound-up when industry leaders meet up for their Box Club gathering in mid-September.
The ELAA was initially set up to represent container carrier interests during European Commission meetings about the review of the conference system.
But in March, it was decided that the ELAA was no longer needed, following the withdrawal of block exemption for the carrier conference system.
The lobbying and statistical activities of the ELAA will be taken over by the World Shipping Council.
