Damco to open central hub to anchor Vietnam network
New logistics centre will support market expansion
Damco is spending more than US$4 million on a new logistics centre in Vietnam as it continues its expansion in what it considers a key growth market.
Damco will itself operate the 26,000sq metre custom-built warehouse at Binh Duong, 25km from Ho Chi Minh City.
Tony Hotine, CEO of Damco Asia-Pacific, said: “Vietnam is a key market for Damco and we will continue to invest in infrastructure, technology and people to support the increasing demands from our customers here.
“We have been active in supporting the advancement of the domestic logistics industry by working with private and government sectors to improve supply chain efficiency.
“The new facility is positioned strategically to meet our customers’ growing needs for quality and flexible integrated logistics solutions in one of the fastest-growing regions in Vietnam.”
Narin Phol, Country Manager for Damco in Vietnam and Cambodia, added: “It will become a central gateway in our distribution networks connecting South, Central and North Vietnam.”
The logistics centre will serve the ports at Cat Lai and Cai Mep and is “well-connected” by road transport.
A plan to link the facility to barge infrastructure as an alternative to haulage is also in place, which Damco said would allow its customers to reduce their transport costs and carbon emissions.
The facility will be C-TPAT certified and offers consolidation, bonded, domestic and general warehouse services. It is scheduled to be ready by April 2011.
