Kombiverkehr expands Ruhr network

Frankfurt-based Kombiverkehr has announced it will be extending its rail services between Duisburg and Basel from 11 January 2010, targeting an increasing demand for moving semitrailers and swapbodies by rail.

It will run three overnight trains a week between the DUSS terminal in Duisburg-Ruhrort Hafen and Basel on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

It said the new service would help relieve heavily congested lines between Cologne, Wuppertal and Basel and will also offer forwarders extra onward connections.

"Our regular customer surveys enable us to keep our ear very close to the ground, so that we can react as quickly as possible to the highlighted demand," said Robert Breuhahn, MD of Kombiverkehr.
