Ghanaian-registered cargo companies Meridian Airways and Airlift International have been restricted from flying to Europe, “as a consequence of a series of very poor results from inspections,” said the EU.
Meridian Airways operated five Douglas DC-8s from Belgium’s Ostende-Brugge Airport, cannot fly in European skies at all, while Airlift International will be allowed to use only one of its fleet of five DC-8s on flights to Europe.
The EU has a list of 278 airlines from 17 countries that are banned from flying to Europe, mostly populated by small carriers from Africa and Asia.
